A hider became a joiner, and all it took was giving him something worth coming out for. When a cat tucks himself away, the instinct is to go retrieve him. Instead, I gave him an activity in a social space. He came out on his own. Mind and body engaged, out from under the table, and now he's building a positive association between my touch and something genuinely fun.
