The visuals for ‘Reckoning’ have a very special meaning behind them. Both the visualiser and the cover artwork were created from an image taken by Josie Fernandez Marelli of Jon Hopkins and I at the end of my Roundhouse concert back in April when we first gave a sneak peek of our new track, while dancing amongst the crowd. We felt the image translated in a beautiful way our many years of friendship and mutual admiration, as well as crystallising that moment in time with everyone on first listen together. Then Daria Korsak took it to another level, transforming it into a layered journey of colours and textures. And Jacob Hulmston used the new visualisation of that photo to create the cover artwork. Here are some words from Daria explaining her process. “Imogen and Jon wanted to build a visualiser from one unaltered 2D photo of them, without any off-the-shelf generative AI. I was curious to explore 3D Gaussian Splatting, a technique that normally needs multiple views of an object, or footage moving through a scene, but we had neither. After some deeply exciting R&D, I found a solution that essentially meant breaking a few algorithms built for completely different tasks and forcing them to 'hallucinate' with synthetic 360° angles, then running multiple iterations of the splat, compositing in 3D and looping the camera movement.
