Our first ladybug became a pupa…and hatched!🐞 Ladybug larvae look like tiny green/black alligators. They eat aphids, so they are a gardeners good buddy. It takes 2 weeks for them to shed their skin 4 times, each time becoming a bigger version of themselves. Then they stop eating, anchor themselves to a surface, and molt one last time into a pupa. (It really is crazy watching them wiggle back and forth out of their old bodies and into the new pupa shell). The pupa is bright orange at first, and over about 5 days, they darken and swing themselves back and forth while attached to their anchor, until they finally transform into the adult winged ladybug. Luckily, I’ve been able to capture the amazing life cycle on camera. It was so cool to see the first one hatch! And we’ve got about 6 more about to transform into adults!!
