International research found boys were more likely to consider teaching in countries where they saw more men already doing it. Children learn which jobs seem right for them by watching role models they identify with. Sen. Mark Kelly's introduced legislation designed to interrupt that cycle by expanding paid teacher residencies and recruiting more men into teaching, mentoring, coaching, and community service. Because when boys rarely see men working in nurturing or educational roles, we shouldn’t be surprised when fewer of them grow up imagining themselves doing it.
