Every dog has his day –– even African painted dogs! 😉 Nearly a century ago, the estimated wild African painted dog population was 500,000. Today, about 6,600 painted dogs are left outside of managed care. Threats to this endangered species include habitat fragmentation, human-animal conflict and viral diseases. Yesterday, on World African Painted Dog Day, we celebrated this incredible species and the Zoo’s efforts to care for our pack that serves as ambassadors for their wild counterparts. 📸: Keeper Meagan
