I’m devastated to share the news that Marshmallow crossed the rainbow bridge. I never would have expected my sweet boys time on earth to end so soon. He started rapidly losing weight, excreting green bile, and stopped eating & drinking. I got him in for a vet appointment as soon as I could after noticing symptoms but unfortunately his body condition was so poor that the chances of recovery were slim- and it would be torture to make him suffer through experimental treatments that likely wouldn’t work anyway so I made the extremely difficult decision to let him pass peacefully with vet assistance. I went into the vets office with a couple of things in mind of what could be wrong with him, and we were able to rule all of them out. It wasn’t a liver problem, internal or external parasites, metal ingestion, or anything else I suspected. It’s truly awful not having answers as to what went wrong, but I am grateful that he did not have to continue to starve himself and suffer any longer. Sadly, I also have more bad news to share. Maple is also losing weight. I do not know if these situations are related or not. I’m hopeful that Maple’s condition is completely separate and more likely due to his old age. At this point, Maple’s body condition is significantly better than Marshmallows was and he did not start pooping green until today. We had additional diagnostic testing ran on Maple and should get the results back within 2 days. I am really hopeful that that will get us some answers that lead us to a treatment plan for him. My heart can’t handle the thought of losing both of them so I am holding onto hope that Maple’s symptoms were caught early enough to get him treatment.
