If back to school is stirring up big feelings, in your kid and in you, you are not alone. New teacher. New routine. New everything. Of course this feels like a lot. And underneath all of it, your kid is looking right at you to figure out how worried, or anxious, or excited they should be. I used to think my job in these moments was having the right facts ready or the perfect explanation. What actually helped my own kids more was something simpler: staying calm near them and letting them borrow that calm for themselves. There's nothing wrong with your kid for needing that. And there's nothing wrong with you if you don't always feel calm enough to give it. You just need the right words for the right moment, and that's exactly what I made this video for. Three moments matter most this week: before you leave the house, at drop off, and at pickup. And if you want more advice from me on what to say beyond the first day of school including those inevitable rough mornings and the homework battles, my brand new Back-to-School program walks you through it. Register now and you'll also get into our live workshop with me on August 19, plus the replay. Link in bio.
