Sabya, having travelled by tram throughout childhood in Calcutta, especially through Ballygunge, built this reminiscent of an old tram carriage, crafted in wood and detailed with etched, star-cut glass. It’s passenger inside sits a solitary, life-size sculptural Bengal tiger, rendered with remarkable naturalism by a team of artisans from Mumbai. “There is something deliberately surreal about the encounter: a tram displaced from Calcutta, a tiger inhabiting its interior, memory reconstructed through theatre.
