“In Quechua, the most important thing, it’s think in the other before think about yourself,” says Peruvian voice actor and Indigenous activist Fernando Valencia. Through dubbing film clips in Quechua, Valencia works to preserve the language, which, like many Indigenous languages, is at risk of being lost due to cultural pressures and discrimination. Quechua is the most widely spoken Indigenous language in the Americas, with approximately 7 to 10 million speakers living primarily in Peru, Bolivia and Ecuador.
