Couple notes here. 1) As I said, in the lecture, there are many different versions of the story; this is just the most common theme that I saw in the ethnographies and sources. . 2) while the proper term for this translation is the Mexica, English-speaking audiences aren’t as familiar with that term, but do understand Aztec. Make the distinction in the lecture and in the captions. . 3) this is a lecture about the history of dogs, and this little bit is from a section on Mesoamerican mythology. I am not an expert on that subject whatsoever— I’m only speaking about it pertaining to dogs.
