I just gave away $100,000 to a young filmmaker! Because I believe if we want entertaining, resonating and elevating stories, we need to invest in the next generation of great storytellers. That's why we created the Renaissance Rising Film Festival. People often ask, "Where is the next Renaissance?" And the response may be, "Where is the next Michelangelo?" but that’s the wrong question. Instead we should be asking, "Where is the next Florence?" The Renaissance didn't happen because one genius appeared. It happened because a city created an environment where extraordinary artists could flourish. That's the vision behind Renaissance Rising. I believe we're living in the midst of a new renaissance, and if we want great films, great art, and great storytellers, we have to create places that believe in them before the rest of the world does. It was an honor to serve as Chairman of this year's festival and witness so much incredible talent. I'm deeply grateful to everyone who came and or supported this mission, people like Jonathan Roumie, Michael Iskander, Alejandro Monteverde, Ben Everard, Tim Rekart, Andrew Hyatt, and Julio Quintana.
