A tiny, 8-week-old kitten was rescued from the median barrier of the Sunrise Highway this morning in Central Islip. Drivers reported seeing the kitten as they drove past. Cat rescuer John DeBacker said Suffolk County Police were able to briefly shut down the highway while he grabbed the animal. He says the kitten is a female and is getting medically evaluated before she will be put up for adoption.
