This will go down as one of the best days of my life. We went out hoping to see one whale and somehow ended up with 7+ hours of nonstop bubble feeding, tail slapping, and breaches, surrounded by some of my closest friends and completely in awe of what we were witnessing. The wild part is that bubble feeding is a coordinated hunting strategy. These whales work together, blowing circles of bubbles to corral schools of fish before coming up through the center. Basically, we got front-row seats to one of the ocean’s most brilliant brunches. And I never expected to be standing in the center of a bubble feed, watching the ocean start to boil beneath us before these massive, graceful creatures surfaced like something out of a dream. There is something impossible to explain about seeing something so enormous rise from an ocean that endless. You feel so small in the best way. Like the world is bigger, wilder, and more magical than you remembered, and somehow you were lucky enough to be standing in exactly the right place for a few unforgettable moments. When we set sail, I asked my Mum to send us something special. Since she passed, I’ve been looking for her in the little signs, any time, & everywhere. And as the fog cleared and the whales appeared, it felt like she had something to do with it. My forever “Don’t worry. I’m still here. Watch this.” Core memory unlocked & eternally grateful. 🩵
