THE HIPS DON’T LIE. Most athletes think collision dominance is decided at contact. It isn’t. It’s decided by the position of your hips before contact ever happens. Every collision is a game of odds. The athlete who arrives with their hips in the stronger position has already increased their chances of winning the violent exchange. Here’s how I coach it: 1️⃣ Win the hips first. Before you think about shoulders, arms or the head, get your hips into a dominant position. 2️⃣ Get your hips to the winning side. Your split doesn’t have to be perfect. Your posture won’t always be perfect. Just make sure your hips arrive on the dominant side of the collision. 3️⃣ Chase the highest-odds position. The gold standard is your belly button passing your lead kneecap at impact. This gives you the best opportunity to transfer force through your opponent instead of absorbing it yourself. 4️⃣ Don’t chase perfection. Your feet might not be ideal. Your lean may be slightly off. Your shoulders may not be exactly where you want them. If your hips are winning, you’ve already stacked the odds in your favour. Stop coaching the collision. Start coaching the position before the collision. Because when the hips win first… everything else becomes easier. Win the hips. Increase the odds. Win the exchange. 💥 #Hips #coach #tackle #collision @MG @Max Bates @l_mencho22 @UCLA BRUINS💙🤍💛
