We arrived in Paris in the middle of a sweltering heat wave with the idea of tracking down Denis Lavant. After some cold calls around Paris, we found him doing a theatrical production and spent a couple of weeks getting the legendary actor to entertain the idea of being in a music video, which he has not done for almost 20 years. He graciously agreed to do it, and the day we shot the video happened to be his birthday. We shot seven takes of film, each one completely particular and nuanced. There were moments that were so direct and personal the emotions in the room were palpable. The idea was to have the video feel like a scene from a film, something that existed outside of videos or social media. The music video captures his raw performance in a one shot portrait, where he artfully improvised to the song. I hope it captures some kind of liminal weirdness of the space where life is fraught and uncertain. I want to thank Denis for his exceptional work. His career in film has been inspiring and brilliant. He is truly one of a kind. It was an honor to have him in this.
