Paper Daughter is a gothic Chinese American fairy tale told in stop motion animation about a young Chinese woman grappling with the guilt of using the identity of a deceased girl to immigrate to the United States via Angel Island in 1926. Made in 9 months as part of the Julia S Gouw Short Film Challenge and with the support of CAPE, Janet Yang Productions and Shore Scripts, it is based on the real life immigration experiences of director Cami Kwan’s great grandmother, who immigrated to the US via Angel Island exactly 100 years ago.
