In 2007 my Dad turned on a camera and captured the moment we shaved what was left of my hair. September is Alopecia Awareness Month🤍 Watching this now feels different. I look at that little girl and think about everything she didn’t know yet. She didn’t know how many questions, stares, insecurities, tears, and moments of acceptance were ahead of her she was just excited. She also didn’t know that one day the thing that made her feel different would become such a meaningful part of who she is. Alopecia took my hair before I was old enough to fully understand what that meant but over the last 19 years it has given me a perspective, a community, and a purpose I never could have imagined at seven years old. So during Alopecia Awareness Month I’m not just raising awareness for hair loss. I’m raising awareness for the little kid who is scared to go back to school, for the person wearing a wig who isn’t ready to tell anyone, for the person who proudly walks out bald, for the parents wondering how to make their child believe they’re still beautiful. There is no “right way” to have alopecia and there is no “right way” to feel about losing your hair. My favorite thing to tell everyone about Alopecia is one day you won’t just accept the thing that makes you different…You’ll use it to help other people accept and love themselves too ✨ This month I’m talking about all things Alopecia! Please if you have any questions I’m here always! Orrr you just want to talk my DMs are always open. Please let me know what videos you want to see this month. Love you guys were all in this together 🤍 #AlopeciaAwarenessMonth #AlopeciaAwareness #alopecia
