
Maximizing tomato cultivation on aeroponic towers by planting 36 tomato plants vertically on four aeroponic towers. Tomatoes can be incredibly productive in aeroponics, but they need the right spacing, support, pruning, and nutrition to keep the plants under control and producing at their best. 1. Planting Strategy: Because of the size of tomato plants and their massive root systems, we recommend planting no more than one tomato plant per growing level. This gives the vines enough room to develop without overcrowding each other. 2. Grow Cage: Tomatoes need strong support to guide the vines as they grow and to carry the weight of the fruit. We use a custom-built galvanized steel grow cage with metal cables that accommodates a total of four aeroponic towers. As the vines grow, we train them along the structure to keep everything organized and supported. 3. Tomato Varieties: For this trial, we grew only grape tomato varieties, including Five Star red grape tomatoes and Nova orange grape tomatoes. In our experience, grape tomatoes are actually more difficult to manage than many of the cherry tomato varieties we’ve grown. The vines tend to intertwine much more, so they require additional pruning and training to keep everything manageable. But the productivity is incredible! 4. Pruning: Pruning is absolutely essential. We prune the plants every week to control vegetative growth, improve airflow, and keep the vines manageable. Without regular pruning, these plants would quickly turn into a massive bushy mess, making harvesting more difficult and potentially reducing productivity. 5. Nutrients: These tomatoes are grown completely without soil. Instead, an ionic mineral nutrient solution is automatically dosed into the irrigation system, supplying the plants with the essential minerals and trace elements they need for healthy growth and fruit production. #tomato #farming #agriculture #gardening #verticalfarming
