Hikes with Nala look a little different these days. No longer is the goal reaching the 'end', whether it be a summit or a lake or whatever. Most often, I just take Nala out and let her choose her path and pace. We wander together. She gets some sniffs, chomps on a branch, and listens to the critters in the trees or under rocks that like to taunt her. Don't get me wrong, she can still do 5-6 mile hikes with ease, especially if there's a lake to swim in or snow to play in. But I appreciate that she's forced me to slow down when we're out hiking and enjoy it all in a different way.
