Most people quoting the Bible every Sunday have never actually read it. They’ve been told what it says. That’s not an accident. That’s the same tool used to edit an entire Bible for enslaved people in the Caribbean, criminalize Black literacy in the American South, and pair conversion with land theft across Africa. Same mechanism, three continents, one throughline. I grew up Pentecostal. My whole family are ministers. I’m still deconstructing what that world taught me, and this is part of it.
