Replying to @Kaitie Kasperitis Sometimes we don’t realize how strong we are until we reach the point that we want to quit, and we decide to fight instead.✨ The heptathlon is 7 track events: 0 points in one of those events took me out of any possibility of medaling at the Olympics 💔 I came into the high jump competition at a conservative height for me - one I can clear with my eyes closed and lower than all the bars I cleared in my warm up jumps. I’ve never missed that height in my career as a Heptathlete. The shock and grief I felt seemed like it would last forever. I was asked if I would drop out of the competition (a very common practice) because I was all but guaranteed to take last place. I felt two very contrasting things: 1. I wanted to go home and hide. I couldn’t stop crying if I wanted to. I was sick to my stomach and felt I owed everyone an apology. I was just so sorry. SO. SORRY. (imagine me screaming that into my tear soaked pillow for the entire 7 hour break before the shot put) 💔 2. I KNEW I needed to continue. Those who came to Paris to watch, at home getting up early to tune in, and everyone who believes in me didn’t watch me so I would get a medal, they wanted to watch me do what I love: SEVEN track and field events. Plus I trained too hard and was too fit to only do 2/7 events at the Olympics! 🤪 I also knew I didn’t want to just come back and be sad and mopey, I wanted to show up as ME: bringing good vibes and giving it my all! I’m surprised at how good my following events went actually considering my nervous system was UNWELL 😂 For those wondering how I am now (I love you by the way): my final tears of heartbreak were the 6 hours between the javelin and the 800 (which I’m laughing at as I’m typing because that was a lot of crying). 🫣😂 Since the competition ended, I have felt so much peace, pride, and profound gratitude for the MANY wonderful people in my corner. I put EVERYTHING I had into finishing that meet with the BEST version of myself 🫶 I will say this: my Olympic Debut definitely made me stronger. We can do hard things! I love you all so much ❤️ The story isn’t over, not even close🫶 Video Credit: NBC Sports
