I will do anything at this point to get people to listen to these songs, even if that means putting it behind one of my silly outfit videos🕊️ Ohio by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young was written by Neil Young in response to the Kent state shootings on May 4, 1970, when students at the university were protesting the U.S. invasion of Cambodia and the Vietnam war when 28 members of the National Guard opened fire. They fired around 67 rounds in just 13 seconds, killing 4 students and injuring 9 others. After seeing photographs of the shootings in Life magazine, Neil Young was outraged and immediately wrote the song. He recorded it just 17 days after the shootings, it was quickly released, becoming one of the most powerful protest songs of the Vietnam war era! This is to me one of the reasons why we need protest music to make its comeback! If it wasn't for Neil Young, many people would've forgotten about this dark page in American history. On top of that, this song like most protest songs from the era, opened people's eyes, triggered massive outrage, and with that got them on the streets to protest. That's why I'm such an advocate for bringing back protest songs in the main stream music industry today.
